Joseph Beuys, Whats Happening?!

Joseph Beuys is a happening artist from Germany, but that is just what he is best known for. He is also a renowned installation artists, graphic artist, and a much respected art theorist. He is probably best know for his work with the "Spiritual world." Now I am not to say there is or there is one, but Beuys was a very firm believer that these spirits existed and interacted with them often.

Beuys art is very well known because of its high impacts on society because no one knew what to do. He once lived in a room with a coyote. Now this is A WILD ANIMAL...LIVINGGGG IN THE SAME ROOM. Sounds strange, and it is. But Joseph whole heartedly believed that happenings such as these placed him closer to these worlds of spirits and animal contact. They gave him a sense of comfort and peace becasue he was able to in his mind connect. And its good because he didn't always connect with everyday people.

The Coyote example, imparticular, exemplifies this. He could have been attacked and killed at any moment durig these days that they spent together. And there were times the coyote got frisky. But by the end, it almost appeared as though it was man and his best friend because they had seemingly grown to trust and ignore eachother. They did no need or want the other, but there was no need to cause arm or conflict for them. Very weird concept.

He did many more art performances, not exactly this extreme, but many like it. He is also seen dawning a blanket around from time to time, which is a well known signature.
